Lia Berger

Junior Teaching Partner, USA

Lia has been teaching since 2022 and holds a TEFL certification. She studied English literature, and has long been fascinated by language not only as a tool for communication, but also as a way of thinking. Lia is also a student herself - she is currently completing a Master’s degree, which means she often finds herself on both sides of the classroom. Because of this, she deeply understands what it’s like to learn a new language, make mistakes, and gradually build confidence along the way.

In her lessons, she aims to create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where students feel comfortable speaking and aren’t afraid to make mistakes. Thanks to her background in improv, which she does in her free time, her classes are often playful, dynamic, and never too serious. Her goal is to help students find something enjoyable even in the “less exciting” parts of language learning - like grammar (yes, even the scary third conditional) - and to feel confident enough to experiment with the language.

What makes Lia happy?

When she’s not in an academic setting, she spends her time writing, doing comedy, and hanging out with her cat Jonas, whom she absolutely adores. She loves all things creative, humour, and anything that allows her to look at the world from a different perspective.

She is also a big fan of horror films—the scarier, the better.

Message to future students

“I’m learning Czech at the same time you’re learning English, so I know very well how challenging it can be – I’m in this with you. Although honestly… Czech is harder. Seven cases, really?!”

Motto

If my students didn't make mistakes, I wouldn't have a job.
